If you are planning to knit this hat for one of our soldiers please note:
For the health and safety of our soldiers, the U.S. military has strict requirements for these caps. They must be knit with 100% wool yarn only. In the event of a fire, any synthetic materials will MELT to the skin and cause severe burns and injury. In addition, 100% wool is warm even when wet.

See the “Work for Troops” website for more information and patterns for knitted and crocheted caps, helmet liners and other needed items.

This hat is a very basic beginner beanie pattern great for anybody. It was designed to knit for charity, specifically the servicemen and women overseas.

The pattern includes written instructions for both knitting in the round, either bottom up or top down, and for knitting flat and seaming.
