This is a great project for a beginning knitter as Bearnie is fairly easy to knit and no complicated techniques are used. Bearnie will be a cute gift to any newborn and hopefully a new best friend.

The teddy bear is knitted on two needles (flat) and is completely made in garter stitch. We love the chunky basic look of this stitch especially for a classic toy.

The only more difficult element is the picking up of stitches on the sides of your work when shaping the snout and the cute little tail. However the pattern is very comprehensive and all the different techniques needed are explained with detailed drawings.

You can use any type of yarn, as the pattern is not restricted to size (our sample in beige has been knitted with 100g of our own Hula-Loop cotton at needles 3mm and our sample in yellow has been knitted with 200g Catania Grande (SMC Schachenmayr) on needles 4mm).

Besides the main color, you need a little bit of a yarn in a contrast color to make the nose and mouth. We used safety eyes 8mm, but you can use any other type of eyes, buttons or you can create the eyes with yarn.

A tight knit gives the most beautiful effect in this pattern, because it will prevent the filling to come through. Advise: take a needle one size smaller than advised on the label of your yarn.

Enjoy!
