This pattern is for an otter as well as it’s fish friend / snack! It can be made in any weight yarn – simply use the same weight yarn throughout the project.

The pattern contains lots of photos to help you every step of the way. It is written in English, using American crochet terms. All of my patterns have been independently tested prior to publication.

You will need:
Yarn of your choice. Yarn weight doesn’t really matter - the size of your project will simply turn out bigger or smaller! I used King Cole Cherished DK (equivalent to weight 3 / light worsted weight) and my finished otter measures approximately 23cm tall. Please ensure that you use the same weight yarn throughout your project.

For the otter (pages 4 - 13), you will need the following colours:

  • Main body colour - I used brown (approx. 127m).
  • Cheeks & chest colour - I used cream (approx. 13m).

For the fish (pages 13 - 15), you will need the following colours:

  • Fish colour - I used light grey (approx. 10m).

Please note - The amount of yarn used will vary according to yarn weight, hook size and stitch tension so these measurements are only a rough guide. The pattern refers to the colours that I used, however these can be substituted for colours of your choice.

You will also need:

  • A suitable size hook for the yarn you have chosen - I used a 4mm hook.
  • A pair of 9mm black safety eyes for the otter.
  • A pair of 6mm black safety eyes for the fish.
  • Some toy stuffing.
  • A small amount of dark brown finer yarn or thread for adding the details to the otter’s face.
  • Clear nylon sewing thread for adding the whiskers.
  • Other tools you will need are a tapestry needle, some scissors and some stitch markers.

You are welcome to sell the items that you make using this pattern, but please do not sell / share the pattern itself. Thank you.
