Beaumont and Sugar Land Cloths
This pattern has two stitch patterns using only knit and purl stitches. The advancing new knitter will enjoy them as well as the seasoned knitter. The instructions are written and charted. Use 100% cotton worsted weight yarn for maximum absorbency. These instructions produce a dense fabric that wears well.
Beaumont is located near the Texas Gulf Coast and the border with Louisiana, just northeast of Houston. The discovery of oil at Spindletop in 1901 is probably one of the most significant events in the history of Beaumont. Sugar Land is a city just southwest of Houston. Since the early 1900s is has been a center for the cultivation of sugar cane and refining sugar. Beaumont has oil; Sugar Land has sugar.
The stitch patterns will be much more obvious if solid colors are used, rather than multi-colored yarn.
