One of the best things about owning a Yarn Shop is watching people’s passion for our art grow. We often get to help aspiring designers, dyers, and fiber artists. Many of you are familiar with Nancy Bates – the amazing creator of the Knitting the National Park hats. Her daughter, Alyson, has watched her mom create these amazing hats and, while she has no interest in knitting, she became intrigued by the yarn and started dying her own. She has an amazing sense of color and it was our pleasure debut her yarns in our store for International Women’s Day. The theme of this cowl is “becoming” – that sense of finding ourselves and being able to express what is inside. With a yarn name like, “Aly Bee” and a color called “Honey,” how could I do anything other than a bee theme? Special thanks to Andrea Rangel’s book Alter Knit for the inspiration of the bee. I hope you enjoy both the pattern and Alyson’s yarn!
