This is the first of my planned series of insect placemats. Done in cotton yarn so that you can put hot pots and plates on it and inspired by my own bees, this is a passion project.

Bugs get a bad rap, I think it’s time we celebrate them!

The pattern is written in US English terms and assumes knowledge of the basic crochet stitches (slip stitch, chain, single crochet, double crochet).

There are tutorials for all techniques in this pattern available on my website.

I design and crochet all my designs myself before they are tested by a variety of people from different countries and different skill levels.

Please note that this pattern and support from myself are only available in English.

This pattern should not be reproduced, shared, redistributed or resold. However, the final product can be sold with credit to the designer: Kate Gerrits @GerritsesCrochet © 2026
