Beeton's Spiral Strip
This novelty stitch from 1870 Mrs. Beeton’s Guide to Embroidery, Crochet and Knitting, p.146 is interesting on both sides. Mrs. Beeton advised working a narrow strip as part of an afghan. I’d pair this strip with other patterns since this isn’t a quick pattern to make. I also recommend knitting needles with long, pointy tips for the p3tog. There are 2 pattern rows with a multiple of 3 stitches + 2 selvage stitches. The aggressively blocked swatch is 2.75 inches wide at gauge.
Skills needed: cast on, knit, p3tog, YO, YO twice and bind off in knit stitch.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.
38 yards of Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton yarn will make 10 inches of a 23-stitch-wide strip at gauge.
