Every new knitter needs to start somewhere and choice of first pattern is important. These two projects - a bath mitten and wash cloth - will help you build your skills and produce two practical and useful items.

The garter stitch wash cloth made of worsted weight cotton uses garter stitch. simple yarn overs (yo) and knit two stitches together (k2tog) to create a dense fabric, perfect for the bath or shower. It requires around 60m of yarn and an evening of your time.

The bath mitten is made flat and sewn together afterwards. It also uses garter stitch, yarn overs and knit two stitches together. It requires around 60m of yarn and an evening of your time.

Both patterns suggest a chain stitched cord to finish them off, however, you could just as easily braid three strands of your yarn and use that too.

This pattern will allow you to practice casting on, garter stitch, yarn over, knit two stitches together and binding off.

Note: it is important to use a worsted weight cotton yarn for this project. Substituting acrylic or acrylic blends will not produce satisfactory results.
