Submitted for your approval… three different takes on the same basic shawl. Made for the beginner, this shawl features 1) a simple pattern--only double crochet and (optional) chain stitches, 2) a heavy weight yarn, and 3) a large hook… so you can see yourself making rapid progress and feel that sense of accomplishment once it is done. The large hook also ensures that the shawl will not be “bulletproof,” but will instead have a nice drape and hang nicely around the shoulders.

There is one minor variation which can give this shawl three different looks, and that all has to do with the spine… do you use two chain spaces, one chain space, or none at all? Or do you get a little daring and mix and match the options provided to you?

Note: I made the sample shawl with the solid spine option, as I figured that would use the most yarn and be useful in judging how much yarn you would need for the project. (Turned out to be a little less than 2 balls of the recommended yarn.) However, I strongly suggest that if you do this spine option, you be very careful that you work into the center dc, as instructed. I… uh… goofed in a couple places. Maybe you can see it, maybe you can’t, but it’s there. One of the options with the chain space might be easier for you to keep track of precisely where that spine increase goes. :)

Items made from my patterns are intended for personal use, sale, or world domination--as long as I get a parking space wherever I want once the world is yours.
