Begynder Slids

Begynder Slids is a relaxed, timeless sweater worked seamlessly from the top down.

The design starts with a folded double neckband, followed by a simple circular yoke shaped with increases. After dividing for the body and sleeves, the body is worked in stockinette stitch and finished with a long ribbed hem featuring side slits. The sleeves are worked top down in the round and finished with deep ribbed cuffs.

Fit

Begynder Slids is designed with a regular, comfortable fit and approximately 6–12 cm / 2½–4¾ in of positive ease.

Choose your size according to your actual bust measurement and the amount of ease you prefer.

Gauge

18 sts × 28 rows = 10 × 10 cm / 4 × 4 in

in stockinette stitch on 5 mm / US 8 needles.

Always knit a gauge swatch before starting.

Yarn Substitution

Other yarns can be used successfully.

Choose a yarn that gives:

18 sts × 28 rows = 10 × 10 cm / 4 × 4 in in stockinette stitch

and preferably has a similar soft drape and handle to the original alpaca/merino yarn.

When substituting yarn, keep in mind that differences in fiber composition, elasticity, weight and meterage can affect the final fit, drape and yarn usage.

Always base your yarn substitution on gauge rather than needle size alone.
