I made this as a Christmas present for the guy running our DnD campaign. I spent a lot of time getting it just right, and I love how it turned out :)

I have used 2 strands held together for the most part and 1 strand in some parts. (It is all written out in the pattern.)

I have used less than a skein for each colour - brown, peach toned multi colour print yarn, black and white.

In addition, you will need stuffing and wire for the tentacles.
