The Belfair Hat is a quick and satisfying knit that is worked from the bottom up. The ribbing length is doubled to be folded over. The colorwork uses two contrast colors in addition to the main color and subtle decreases make for flattering shaping at the crown of the hat.

Sizes:
1 - 15 inches (38 cm) in circumference
2 - 17 inches (43 cm) in circumference
The Belfair Hat is meant to be worn with negative ease of about 3 inches (7.5 cm) to allow for the ribbing to stretch.

Gauge
26 stitches and 32 rows = 4 inches x 4 inches (10.15 x 10.15 cm) in stockinette on US size 7 (4.5mm) needles

Please note that several test knitters found that they needed to adjust the needle size in order to obtain the correct gauge. As always, it is recommended that you use whatever needle size gets you the correct stitch and row count.

Needles
US size 6 (4.0 mm) 16 inch (41 cm) circular needles
US size 7 (4.5 mm) 16 inch (41 cm) circular needles
US size 7 (4.5 mm) double pointed needles for cables and decreasing

Recommended Yarns:
MC - 2 skeins of Woolfolk Far or 180 yards/165 meters of worsted weight yarn
CC1 - 1 skein of Woolfolk Far or 50 yards/46 meters of worsted weight yarn
CC2 - 1 skein of Woolfolk Far or 50 yards/46 meters of worsted weight yarn

The chained nature of the recommended yarn also allows it to stretch differently than many other worsted weight yarns. If substituting yarn, a dk weight may get you the correct gauge.
