Bergenia Cushion Block

Inspired by the Bergenia flower—one of the first to bloom as winter fades—this crochet pattern captures its layered petals and strong shape using overlay mosaic crochet, worked in the round.

Highlights of this pattern:

Overlay pattern is worked in rounds so you work with one color for one round without cutting the yarn, this eliminates the need of fastening off and weaving in ends.
Pattern contains PDF instruction with photos, print friendly version and a photo tutorial for moving slip stitch method used in joining the rounds.

Size:
Each individual square motif measures approximately 5–5.5”.
Version 1 combines four square motifs to create a larger cushion block, measuring around 15”. It can be easily upsized by:
• Increasing the number of motifs joined, or
• Adding more Alpine Stitch rounds before working the final border.
Version 2 is a standalone motif, measuring around 12”. While it looks beautiful on its own, it can also be joined with others to create throws, blankets, or larger projects.
The sample is worked in sport weight cotton yarn, but feel free to substitute with your preferred yarn. Note: yardage and gauge may vary depending on your choice.

As with many of my other patterns, the pattern instructions for Bergenia Cushion Block too comes with lot of helpful photos for each round.
