The Berry Picker Knit Mittens Pattern features two finishes: full mittens and fingerless mitts. Pattern for the fingerless option was previously released with a fingerless glove pattern. This is somehow a pattern update but is now being released instead with a full mittens option.

There is also the Berry Picker Knit Gloves Pattern that comes in two finishes: full gloves and fingerless gloves, that is being released alongside this pattern. You can find it here:

Skills required:

This pattern requires some experience knitting with DPNs (double pointed needles), adding stitches
using m1R (make 1 right) and m1L (make 1 left), casting on stitches in the middle of a row or round, and
picking up stitches from cast on stitches.

Sizing:

This pattern is written and tested for a Regular Adult size (7”-7.5” from wrist to center tip and about 7.5” in hand circumference measured around palm).

Finished measurements are:

  • Width measured from palm above thumb gusset: 3.50” - 3.75” (9 - 9.5 cm)
  • Height measured from cuff to fingertips for fingerless option: 7” - 7.5” (17.75 - 19 cm)
  • Height measured from cuff to fingertips for full mittens option: 9” - 9.5” (23 - 24 cm)

Materials needed:

  • Worsted weight yarn, as long as gauge is met. The suggested yarns produce good stitch definition, but you are welcome to use any of your preferred yarn(s).
  • US 8/5mm DPNs (double pointed needles), 5 pieces; or size needed to obtain gauge (wooden needles work great)
  • Stitch markers, 2-3 pcs
  • Tapestry needle
  • Scissors
  • Strand of yarn, 8 inches, contrasting color recommended

Yardage:

Note: yardage indicated does not include amount needed for a gauge swatch

  • Mittens: approximately 125 - 130 yards / 114 - 119 meters,
  • Fingerless Mittens: approximately 107 - 112 yards / 98 - 103 meters
