’Best of’ sock formula

I have developed this toe up sock formula using the best methods I have learned from doing test knitting for others. There are two increase methods. The toe increase is commonly used, but the gusset increases are different and much more discreet than the norm. The shadow wrap technique for the heel is so much more practical than wrap & turn as you can “see” the wraps and easily tell where to make the next one, as well as knitting them later. Although these instructions are specific to the more common sizes and numbers of CO’s, this formula can be used for odd numbered sock patterns, as well.

Circular needle size: I generally use 2 or 2.25mm for 64 or 68 st socks, 2.25 or 2.5mm for  60 or 56 st socks and  2.5 or 2.75 mm for a 52 st sock. A lot has to do with thickness of yarn and circumference of foot.  It takes a little experience to know what is best for you.
