Bétula is a very simple triangular shaped shawl that features rows of stockinette and garter stitch.
The pattern is worked in three different sections: the very first one alternates rows of stockinette and garter stitch, making it the most meditative and intuitive knit.
Then the shawl is divided into two parts: one half of the stitches are put on hold while the other half are worked in garter stitch using short rows. Then when the first half is completed, the stitches that were put on hold are worked in the same manner as the other half.

For this design, I wanted to create a very simple piece that would showcase the beautifully rustic yarn that I have used for the sample.
For that reason, Bétula (Birch in Portuguese) would work wonderfully with slightly irregular yarns (handpun friendly!) or variegated yarns.

The pattern requires 4 skeins of Beiroa which is a 100% Portuguese yarn. It’s a DK weight and comes in 273 yards(250m) /100g skeins.
I have used 3 skeins for the sample only, but was left with something like 10g, so I would highly suggest to getting four skeins if you want to use the same yarn.
