Betwixt is a slouchy, snuggly hat that hugs your head, but doesn’t flatten the hair. This pattern is easy enough for a beginner that is not afraid to try some shaping. The buttons are optional, but add a nice finished touch.

The hat knits up fairly quickly (4-6 hrs) and is unisex. One size fits most. The ribbing stretches to accommodate most adult heads. For heads larger than 23” you may wish to go up a needle size. Though the ribbing helps to accommodate a wide variety of head sizes, being near the specified gauge is best to get the fit you expect.

Please note that the 40” needle discussed in the pattern is for use with the magic loop method.

I use the magic loop method to knit hats, but you may also use DPNs if that is more familiar and comfortable. If you are interested in magic loop and want a tutorial, you can find great resources at Knitttinghelp.com and a video specifically about magic loop here: http://www.knittinghelp.com/video/play/magic-loop
