The inspiration for this simple but bold texture was from 17th-c. jackets in European museum collections.

It was quite fascinating to find two different jackets in different museum collections that used the same geometric knit/purl design, but each jacket with different accent stitches. One is in the Germanisches Nationalmuseum textile collection, and the other in the Museo Stibbert in Florence. Perhaps both garments were created by the same designer.

With its strong diagonal lines and simple knit purl textures, this reversible scarf is both easy to knit and striking to wear. On the left are photos of both the front and reverse sides.

Samples shown in Shelridge Yarns Classic DK (aka Soft Touch DKW) – Nutmeg.
