This scary sock pattern has been designed exclusively for Super Sock Scarefest 2021. It will be available to purchase from the middle of November.

This sock pattern is inspired by the film The Blob and honours 1950s horror films and 1950s style. This was a time when bobby socks were in fashion and lurid sci-fi/horror crossovers were all the rage in the cinemas. These ankle socks feature a ruffle at the cuff which can be knitted in a contrast colour, and a lace pattern evoking the eponymous Blob lapping at your feet.

Instructions are given for three sizes according to foot circumference - 16cm/6½” (small), 20cm/8” (medium), 24cm/9½” (large).

Requires a 400m skein of 4 ply/fingering weight sock yarn and a small amount of contrast colour (optional). Sample medium size used approx. 70g of main colour and approx. 5g of contrast colour. Any suitable sock yarn may be used. The sample sock pictured uses High Twist Sock Yarn from Wonderful Wool in colour pink-red-orange with neon mini-skein.

The pattern contains both chart and full written instructions for the Blob stitch pattern.

Pattern is also available in a low vision accessible format following the Ravelry requirements (22 and 24 pt san serif font, black text throughout, no italics, all written directions, chart not required but is appended at the end of the document).

This pattern has been test knit.
