This blanket was inspired by creepy cryptids and spooky stories around the fire, and if you share a love of those things, I think you’ll love this blanket too! It’s a perfect lap blanket for a cozy day of reading horror stories and sipping your preferred hot beverage.

This pattern is best-suited for crocheters with intermediate experience and a basic understanding of overlay mosaic crochet. This pattern is written using U.S. terms (U.S. single crochet = U.K. double crochet, U.S. double crochet = U.K. treble crochet, etc.).

This pattern is symmetrical (in exception to the “BEWARE THE WOODS” panel) and can be read for both right- and left-handed crocheters. To convert the “BEWARE THE WOODS” panel to left-handed, simply read the chart from left to right or read the written pattern from last to first (still following the rows in chronological order).

This blanket is very customizable. You can use whatever colors you like, but this pattern requires a minimum of two colors. The same goes for yarn type but to achieve the same dimensions (with the border), worsted weight is required. The panels can also be arranged in whatever order you prefer or they can be omitted completely if you’d like the blanket to be shorter.

There are instructions on how to create the border that I used but that is also something that can be customizable by you, whether you want to keep it a fringe border or do an envelope border (if the latter, add two extra chains to the foundation row). With the border, the dimensions come to 56 in x 37 in (4.67 x 3.083 ft).
