Beyond the Border is a standard brimmed, cabled hat with an added border of color. The border is actually worked in during the rest of the hat construction. The hat comes in two sizes and making the hat smaller or larger is easily accomplished and explained within the pattern.

Pattern requires the following skills: knitting in the round, cabling, decreasing, use of DPNs.

Yarn
2 contrasting colors of a sport weight yarn (or dk weight for brim); 200yds/183m for the MC (main color for body) and about 10yds/9m of the CC (contrast color for brim).

Used in: Quince & Co ‘Chickadee’ (100% organic wool; 164yds/150m per 1.75oz/50g skein) and Mirasol ‘Llama Una’ (100% llama; 109yds/100m per 1.75oz/50g skein)

Navy Blue Hat with Tan Border
MC: Quince & Co ‘Chickadee’, col 110 ‘Pea Coat’; 2 skeins.
CC: Quince & Co ‘Chickadee’, col 157 ‘Audouin’; 1 skein.

Blue-Grey Hat with Tan Border
MC: Quincec & Co ‘Chickadee’, col 166 ‘Torne’, 2 skeins.
CC: Mirasol ‘Llama Una’, col 8201 ‘Stone’, 1 skein.

Needles
3.5mm/U.S. size 4 16” circular needle and same size set of DPNs for the crown.

Notions
Darning needle.
Stitch marker to mark beginning of the round.
Cable Needle.

Gauge
28 sts to 4” in 2x2 ribbing, 28 sts to 4” in main cabled section BEFORE BLOCKING. Should be about the same after blocking. No need to stretch fabric when blocking unless it’s needed.

Finished Measurements
Small/Med (Large) - 17” (20”) with much negative ease due to the ribbing pattern. For a 20-21” head the small/med size is snug and comfortable. Both hats shown in Small/Med.
