One of the fun parts of designing is playing with construction, texture, and color. My original sketches for this design were of a color-blocked garment and evolved to take that concept one step further into “lace blocking.” The front and back panels use a solid broken rib pattern and the sides feature a lace pattern that echo the vertical ribs of the front panels. The side panels are constructed in one piece from the bottom up, front and back shoulders worked separately, then the shoulders joined. The front panels and sleeves are then sewn into place. The result is a visually stunning lace top with no side seams.
