Bibliort: an item not originally designed to mark one’s place in a book that is being used for that purpose

Bibelot:a small decorative object, or a finely made miniature book

Most knitted bookmarks have two critical drawbacks. They’re never at hand when you need them, and they’re thick enough to damage a book -- anathema to any right-thinking librarian. This bibelot solves both problems. Wear it as a garter and you won’t even have to get out of your favorite chair to find a bookmark. The ribbon lies thin and flat inside the book, and the stretchy garter holds the bookmark securely in place.

Just about any springy fingering weight yarn will work for this pattern. You can use either plain or elasticized ribbon, depending on how much stretch you want.

Bookmark length is determined by your gauge and the number of picots you cast on. Fit can be adjusted by changing the ribbon length.
