Mosaic & Lace Knits is an introduction to a technique that I have been developing over several years that brings colorwork into lace using slip stitches. Handling only one strand of yarn at a time, no carrying along the row or stranding, allows development of colorwork patterns without any floats running behind your work and obscuring your lace.

In the book you will find patterns where the mosaic and lace interact to create fanciful stitches but at other times I have chosen to allow the mosaic and lace to stand separately on their own merits. This is one of those times.

A simple mosaic alternates with eyelet lace bands to create a slouchy hat with balance and drape. The amazing yarn content also contributes to the beautiful fall.

The mosaic comes together on the crown to form an amazing snowflake like motif.

If you would like to see this piece in action you can watch the pattern tour video on my YouTube channel Watch Barbara Knit.

The sample is worked in the colors Crocus and Fern.
