This colourful blanket is a bright and cheerful make that is sure to put a smile on your face, and would make a lovely baby blanket for a little one.
The Big Heart Blanket is worked using the tapestry crochet technique of working with 2 colours in each row, crocheting over the used colour until needed. It is an easy make for an advanced beginner, (once you master the tapestry crochet technique it’s a cinch) which is fun to watch grow as each new colour change occurs. It is made in 5 pieces that are then sewn together to create the blanket.

This pattern is approximately a cot size, although it would would be easy to extend the pattern and make a bigger blanket by adding more rows of hearts or making each row longer.

I have used a large colour palette (approx.10 shades) for my blanket, but I think it would look just as good in a more limited palette, or maybe a pastel range of colours. Would also be good for a stash busting project with each square a different colour, the choices are endless!

I made mine in cotton, but I think it would be great in wool too! I used a DK weight yarn, but you could use a 4ply weight and a 3.00mm hook for a smaller finished blanket. The yarn quantities are approximate as the amount could vary depending on your tension.

The pattern includes the heart square chart and also a written explanation and a brief photo tutorial for the tapestry crochet technique.
