A fast and fun project that can be knit in a lot of different colors and finsihed up with pompons in different sizes and colors.

This pattern has instructions for a slightly slouchy version and for a beanie version. I won’t name them women’s and men’s hats, as everyone is free to choose their own style. But the men I know tend to like their hats tighter and shorter than most women, so I would go for the beanie version for a man.

If you want to knit for kids, I think the safest option is to choose a finer yarn and finer needles. As the pattern repeat is 10 stitches wide, it will get quite a bit smaller taking out one. Going down to 80 stitches, my guess is that you will end up with a hat that would fit a 3-4 year old, but I have not tried. Let me know if you do!
