The birchwood hat is is a simple crochet bucket hat. It starts as a colorful mandala and works into granny stripes down the sides. A cotton yarn or cotton blend would make a great beach hat for the summer.

You may choose 5 different shades of yarn and work as the pattern calls, or as many as you like—a great way to stash-bust or use leftover yarn from other projects.
