Bird Feeder
Sándor Kányádi’s poem “Bird Feeder” always reminds me that it is in the silence of winter that care truly finds its place. In the poem, the poet crumbles bread for the birds in his garden, and through this small gesture, he makes the harshness of winter somewhat more humane. I wanted to translate this warm, caring atmosphere into yarn and stitches when I designed this triangular lace scarf.
The shawl’s shape and delicate patterns evoke the lightness of the birds returning to the garden and the intimate moments of winter feeding. As you knit, each row serves as a gentle reminder that care always has power—even in the coldest and hardest of times. I hope the “Bird Feeder” shawl will bring the same warmth to those who make it and those who wear it.
The Bird Feeder shawl begins at the bottom tip and grows upwards into an expansive triangle. The pattern is worked in garter stitch with eyelet dots and bands, creating a dynamic but uncomplicated knitting pattern. Bird Feeder is a minimalist design in which the yarn takes center stage, allowing its texture and color to shine in every stitch.
