Inspired by my daughter’s current favourite word, ‘Birdie!’ this classic jumper is for children 18 months to 6 years old. Birdie is dressy enough for family photos, but comfortable and sturdy enough to run and jump in all day. A linen stitch bodice provides coverage and structure over a high empire waist, and a lace pattern inspired by feathers creates a drapey, stretchy skirt. The cluster-stitch hem is a perfect finishing touch. This versatile autumn layering piece is knit in the round from the top down in two colours of Knit Picks Comfy Sport, an affordable cotton-acrylic blend that wears and washes well. The straps are sewn from just a scrap of cotton fabric.
