A cute and cozy hat for a newborn with a little texture added for interest. A garter stitch brim hugs your little one’s head without being too tight. Paired decreases at the crown make a square-ish shape that allows you to easily continue the bird’s eye pattern all the way to the top.

A great use for little bits of sport or heavy fingering weight yarn you may have lying around. The average hat takes only 20-25g of Bugga!

This pattern is suitable for beginning knitters. Skills required include: long-tail cast-on, knitting in the round, knit, purl, k2tog, and ssk.

Sizing Note: Two sizes are given to fit the average 13” (14”) newborn head with 10% negative ease. This will result in a hat that measures about 12” (13”) in circumference. Most newborns will fit best in the smaller size, while the larger size is better for a 1 to 3 month old. However, the size of newborn heads vary greatly, so instructions are included for adjusting the size of the hat to fit your baby - or even an adult!
