A dramatic shawl with contrast-color wedges and a light airy feel due to oversized needles and a simple lace pattern. The shawl is semicircular, worked sideways, with wedges of (very simple) short rows both providing the shaping and making the colorwork very easy.

You will need 3 (50g) skeins of sock yarn, plus a small amount of contrast-color yarn--roughly a third of a 50g skein. The needles are so oversized that the contrast yarn can be a slightly different weight without any trouble. The pattern is also perfectly amenable to making a shorter or longer shawl, as it is worked sideways in short repeats. The shawl expands by about 20% on blocking, so keep this in mind when altering the pattern size.
