“Blauwal” (Blue Whale) is the summerly version of my
Manati cardigan – with panels in “Lace Butterfly” stitch on bands, hems, shoulders and sleeves. The construction starts a bit differently, with the vertical lace panels on back and fronts, but then stitches are picked up and you work sideways to the outside, to make the most of your yarn.

Gauge: 24 sts x 36 rows - instructions are included for stitch gauges 22 and 26, too.

Approx. 1550/ 1650/ 1750 m of a Fingering or Sport weight needed for given length. If you prefer less/ more width, simply end earlier or continue, but you will a different amount of yarn.

3 sizes available (S/M, L, XL/ XXL), with back width of 70/ 75/ 80cm. The cardigan is intended to be worn with a lot of ease.

The sample was worked with 2 yarns held together: Ruppert Garne
Soft Lamb
and Isager Jpansk Bomuld.
My suggestion is to try out the new Ruppert Garne
Linaru
instead of the cotton, for a better drape - and the nice side effect is that you would be able to get the whole material for the cardigan for 50 Euros or even less!
Thanks to Sabine of Ruppert Garne for the coorperation.

These are the basic steps to work the cardigan:
Step 1: Work center back lace panel of 14 sts for overall length minus 3cm.
Step 2: Divide lace panel into two, adding a few stitches on both sides, and continue both of them separately for overall length plus 3cm, for the front pieces.
Step 3: Left side of cardigan: Pick up stitches from edge of front and back lace panel. Work left side of cardigan in long rows from front to back hem, with lace on hems and a lace panel on top of the shoulder, including regular decreases for the shoulder slope … until you have reached your desired width. Bind off front and back together up to underarm, using the 3-needle-bindoff technique.
Step 4: Work left sleeve in allover lace pattern (half of yarn remaining after step 2 used up).
Steps 5 and 6: Repeat steps 3 and 4 for the right side.
