The name of these socks comes from a Dream Theater lyric by John Petrucci.

Pink bleeds down from the cuff into the black, one drip at a time, and every drip ends in a small nupp – like paint running down a canvas.

Bleeding Colors is a two-colour cable sock knitted from the cuff down. The cuff and the top of the leg are pink, and from there the drips continue into the black as intarsia cables. It’s a fun way to learn two-colour cables.

Construction
Knitted in the round from the cuff down: a pink ribbed cuff, the dripping cable chart, a heel flap with gussets, and a wedge toe closed with Kitchener stitch. Charted and written.

To fit foot circumference: 18.5 (21.5, 24, 26.5, 29.5) cm / 7.25 (8.5, 9.5, 10.5, 11.5) in
Finished foot circumference: 17.5 (20, 22.5, 25, 27.5) cm / 7 (7.75, 8.75, 9.75, 10.75) in, about 6% negative ease
The foot length is adjustable.

You’ll need

• Yarn: 40–70 g of fingering weight yarn in total, in two colours. Sample knitted in Drops Fabel (75% wool, 25% nylon; 205 m / 50 g) in MC #400 black and CC #102 pink. Size S with a 23 cm (9 in) foot (EU 39) used 189 m / 46 g of MC and 33 m / 16 g of CC.
• Needles: 2.5 mm (US 1.5) DPNs, a 100 cm (40 in) circular for magic loop or a short circular, or the size needed to obtain gauge
• Notions: a cable needle, 3 stitch markers and a tapestry needle
• Gauge: 32 sts and 36 rows = 10 cm (4 in) in stockinette
