The ’Blooming Orchid’ double layer mittens are worked in the round from the bottom up. However, this is not double knitting as you might think.
First, you will knit a pair of the inside mittens in stockinette stitch (inner layer). Next, you will knit a pair of the upper mittens (outer layer) in a lace pattern on the back of the hand, and in stockinette stitch on the palm side. Thus, you’ll have got four details in total. To finish, you will need to insert one detail into another and join them together, for each pair of mittens.
The double-layered mittens turn out very warm and cozy. They will keep your hands warm, especially during the severe winter frosts. Your hands will be forever grateful to you when you knit these mittens.

The pattern includes both charts and pattern instructions. Also, a detailed step-by-step photo tutorial is included.

Size: Fits 17–19 cm (6 ¾–7 ½″) around the hand at the widest point; palm length is 18 cm (7″).

The two yarn-weight options are available, the choice is yours:

  1. Menka Mink Yarn (90% mink, 10% nylon; 350 m (382 yds) / 50 g);
  2. Piu Bella Angora Spike Regina Plus (80% angora, 20% polyamide; 125 m (137 yds) / 25 g).

If you prefer another brand, be sure to test the gauge to make sure that an adjustment is not necessary as you substitute one yarn for another. Changing the yarn weight will change the size and appearance of the finished project as well as change the amount of yarn required.
