Blossom is a classic cabled hat, perfect for sitting around a campfire or a brisk walk in the early spring morning.

Try my yarn! I wrote this pattern for my luscious hand-dyed Targhee Sweater yarn, and I am debuting new hand-dyed spring colorways in Targhee Sweater in my shop, along with the pattern release. Order a skein and get this pattern for free.

The Blossom hat is knit in the round from the bottom up.

  • The bold rope cable has a center vertical column running through it, which opens up to a delightful Greek phi Φ shape.
  • There are 6 ribbed panels to give the hat a bit of stretch and grip.
  • The crown is quickly decreased for a modern shape.
  • Instructions are included for a close-fitting beanie as well as a slouchier hat.

The pattern includes 3 video tutorials, each of which is fully captioned:

  • My favorite stretchy cast-on method: the slip knot cast-on
  • How to work the Blossom cable without a cable needle
  • How to tell if you’re ready for crown decreases

The video tutorials make this a perfect project for learning how to cable without a cable needle and/or for doing your first cables.
