Blueberry Twist Mittens
Blueberry Twist is the second pattern in my Cozy Clouds Collection. The Cozy Clouds patterns are all double layered mittens created using Fyberspates Cumulus brushed alpaca and silk as the inner layer for cozy warmth, with smooth merino on the outside for incredible stitch definition in the lace - and gorgeous Cumulus clouds peeking through each YO!
The Blueberry Twist Lace motif is a simple 8 row center lace repeat with alternating mock cable columns running up each side. The lace pattern is the same for both mitten sizes, and mittens are knit to your own hand length. Lace pattern is both charted and written.
3 styles are included – single layered stockinette, double layered stockinette and double layered Blueberry Twist Lace.
This pattern was created when I wanted to use Fyberspates super-scrumptious Cumulus to make a warm and beautiful lace mitten for my mom. The only problem was that the Cumulus was SO fluffy that the lace pattern was largely obscured. So Mom & I dreamed up this double layered mitten with the brushed alpaca and silk as the inner layer for cozy warmth, with smooth merino on the outside for incredible stitch definition in the lace - and gorgeous Cumulus clouds peeking through each YO!
These mittens are knitted in 2 separate layers, seamlessly attached with NO sewing required. This is an easy way to get a doubled fabric WITHOUT double knitting!!
This entire mitten was designed around Fyberspates Cumulus as the inner layer. The fluffy alpaca and silk is so soft you almost can’t feel it on your skin, and the loft makes it incredibly warm, especially when insulated with the Merino outer shell. The loft also makes this laceweight yarn knit up at a larger gauge than expected – nearly the same as the fingering. 1, 50g ball of Cumulus will make both mittens.
For the outer yarn, I chose Malabrigo Mechita, but any fingering weight yarn with around 420yds/100g will work. 1, 100g skein of Mechita will make 4 mittens!
I suggest choosing 2 colors with very high contrast, so the lace pattern will be easily seen with the Cumulus peeking through. I like to choose a lighter color for the inner Cumulus layer, so it won’t look dingy on the palm after use – note that Cumulus is hand wash only!
