This project shows you how to make a brooch with traditional knitting and crochet alongside altered everyday objects. Change the colour to suit your own taste or use the starting point to make a beaked creature of your own design.

Yarn weight, hook size, and needle size can all vary - there are no hard and fast requirements for this pattern.

In addition to yarn, knitting needles, and a crochet hook, you will need:

  • 1 kilt pin, approximately 10cm (3.9”)
  • 1 ‘rawlplug’ or other yellow drywall anchor, available at any hardware or home improvement store
  • 2 bird feet from a toy bird or craft bird
  • Stuffing
  • Thread, yarn, or beads for the eye
