Quick to make and fun to wear, this maxi-length skirt is perfect for any season. Worked in fingering weight yarn with a 3.25mm hook, you will be surprised at how quickly you can have a new skirt. Bluebirds is easily adapted for almost any size, with easy to follow instructions included within the pattern.

If you have ever done filet crochet before, you will find this pattern a breeze to follow. The main portion of the skirt follows a graph, uses standard 4-mesh filet crochet technique, and is worked in the round.

This skirt is also designed with a removable underskirt; this way, you can minimize the frequency of washing of the crocheted fabric, as well as change the look of the skirt by changing the underskirt.

Gauge: In stitch pattern for waist, 18 sts = 3” (7.6 cm), and 18 rows = 3” (7.6 cm)
In open mesh pattern for skirt, 6 mesh wide = 3” (7.6cm) and 5 mesh high = 3” (7.6 cm)

You will need approximately 1200 to 1600 yards (more for XL sizes) to complete this project. I used a cone of 5/2 cotton (since discontinued) which works out to approximately fingering weight. Both 5/2 cones of thread and fingering weight fiber will work well in this project and should easily achieve gauge.
