Does your 11 inch/28 cm fashion doll need a warm but fun hood that won’t crush a hairdo? Then this quick knit might be just the thing. Worked flat, it can be finished with either a quick 3-needle bind off for a coordination ridge along the top of the hood (as pictured), or bound off using your favorite bind off and then seam for a smooth look along the top of the hood. The stockinette stitch will curl away from the dolls’ face and curl in a little at the bottom of the hood for a finished appearance with no extra work. Written instructions (page 3) and charted instructions (page 4) included.

Difficulty level: Suitable for an adventurous beginner, it requires just one increase stitch, one decrease stitch, and a willingness to learn to make a bobble; instructions and pointers to tutorials are included for my favorite methods or a more experienced knitter can substitute their own. Don’t like the bobbles? Then leave them out for a simpler look.

Skills & Techniques:
Required: Cast on, familiarity with knit and purl stitches, increase stitch, decrease stitch, bind off with seaming for smooth top of hood or 3-needle bind-off for ridge along top of hood (as pictured); sewing hood closed below the doll’s chin
Optional: Bobble (model has 5 bobbles)

Materials:
Yarn: Any leftover fingering weight yarn; the model took less than .18 ounces/5 g of
Regia Stretch (Uni / Solid) yarn, less than about 22 yards/20 m. The construction leaves a generous opening to go over dolly’s head and hairdo, so non-stretchy yarns (cotton, linen, etc.) should also work well.

Needles: 2.5mm/US size 1-1/2 straights, sock-sized dpns, or circulars (or size to get gauge). If working the 3-needle bind off (optional), you will need at least 3 dpns.

Other: Yarn needle; optional crochet hook if casting on using a crochet cast-on with hook and needle (optional, described below)

Finished measurements: About 2 inches x 2 inches/5 cm x 5 cm when finished. The model pictured is my Francie doll.
