If you’ve never knitted mittens before – or never used double-pointed needles (dpns) – this is the perfect pattern to start with. These simple mittens are knitted on dpns, so the only seam you need to sew is on the thumb. It’s a great way to learn a new technique while creating something practical and cosy.

For experienced knitters, these mittens make a great quick knit – ideal for gifting, or for keeping your own hands warm with the magic of natural fibres, the only way to stay properly cosy!

CONSTRUCTION
Knitted on double pointed needles in the round in one piece from the cuff.

TECHNIQUES USED
Cast on, knit, purl, double pointed needles, in the round, cast off. Optional but recommended to create the feeling of joy when joining your stitches: three needle cast off and mattress stitch.

YARN
One 100g hank of P &J Yorkshire Yarn Bluefaced Leicester Aran.
100% British Bluefaced Leicester wool, 175m/191yds per 100g

SUGGESTED KNITTING NEEDLES
Four each of 4.5mm and 5mm.

GAUGE (tension)
18 stitches and 24 rows to 10cm square over stocking stitch. I obtained this gauge with 5mm needles.
It is important to obtain gauge so do swatch and change your needle size to achieve the correct gauge if you need to.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
To fit adult hand. Due to the nature of individual gauges the finished circumference can vary from 15cm to 20cm. If the knitter gets the gauge as above the finished circumference will be approx. 17cm.
