Right now, here in Australia, we’re pretty lucky to have access to an excellent supply of high quality, ethically grown and produced, local yarns. When Angela, of Blackwattle Alpaca Yarn and Fibre (formerly One Tree Hill Alpacas), reached out to local knitwear designers to work with her on creating some patterns to showcase her incredible dye work, I jumped at the opportunity. As always with my work, texture is key. Twisted rib, while not exactly a fast stitch pattern to work up, adds elasticity and neat functionality to this deliciously warm hat. Twisted cables and my most favourite knit feature, bobbles, highlight both the character of the yarn and the beautiful colours Angela creates. BOBURU ticks all my boxes.

YARN REQUIREMENTS
You will only need 100g of the recommended yarn for all sizes, including pompom. Please keep in mind that any difference in gauge may affect the amount of yarn you use.

SIZES
Child: 44-49cm
Teen/Regular Adult: 50-56cm
Large Adult: 56-61cm

GAUGE
24sts/28 rounds over 10cm in pattern on 4mm/US 6 needles
** An important note on gauge: my gauge for this pattern is firm, as this pattern has been designed to be worked in a yarn with a very high alpaca content. If you choose to substitute yarn, I strongly recommend choosing a yarn that has the same or very similar properties. If you choose a yarn with very different properties, you will likely find the hat does not fit as intended.

This pattern has been professionally tech edited, and has been test knitted.

Thank you to Cat Timms, for her beautiful images; Kristina McGrath, for her tech editing skills; Angela Smith, for yarn support; and my wonderful test knitters, for sharing their time and feedback.
