I designed this shawl as a travel companion for an adventure to Europe, wanting a project simple enough to pick up anywhere without losing my place. The four-row, two-color repeat let me knit while still taking in all the history and beauty of the region.

The project is worked flat with an easy-to-remember 4-row repeat which makes it the perfect companion for travel, retreat, or just a restful afternoon. I knit the sample using two hanks each of 2 colors of sport weight yarn, but wonderfully-sized shawls have also been made using fingering, DK, and worsted weight yarns.

Notes are included in the pattern outlining how to customize the project based on available yardage. I recommend having at least 500 yards (457 m) of each color for the project. If you have more yarn available you’ll be able to make an even larger shawl!
