The Bohemian Rhapsody colorway is perhaps my favorite of everything I’ve ever dyed, and it really epitomizes my personal aesthetic. I love the subtlety of the different speckles, I love the richness of the colors blending, and I love how unconventional it is. So I put what I love about the color into a design, drawing on funky tapestries and rugs for inspiration.

The twisted stitch pattern is suitable for an advanced intermediate knitter, and like cabling it does require paying attention – and sharp needles. There is an unusual stitch (explained in the pattern) and patterning on RS and WS rows.

Materials
Apple Tree Knits’ Groovy Fingering in Bohemian Rhapsody Gradient, in the Jumbo size; 100% superwash merino, 576 yds (527 m)/ 5.25 oz (150 g)

Circular needle size US # 4 (3.5 mm) needle, or size to obtain gauge. The circular needle should be 30 inches (76 cm) or longer (to accommodate stitch count).

2 stitch markers (to mark the center stitch)

Tapestry needle, tassel-making tool or stiff cardboard (for making tassels)

Gauge
2 repeats = 3 inches in pattern, blocked (use the repeats indicated by the blue border in Chart 2, and knit at least 20 rows for an accurate swatch).
Please note that the sample used exactly 149 g; take time to ensure an accurate gauge, and if choosing between two needle sizes opt for the smaller needle.

Finished Size
21 inches (53 cm) deep by 58 inches (147 cm) wide, excluding tassels.
