Plain or Heart Bonding Squares. These are knitted in pairs and are used in NICU’s to help with Bonding when Mum and Baby can’t be together. They are given one each to have close to them. They are then swapped every 12 hours to share each other’s scent.
Sizes: approximately 4/5” X 4/5” 10/12.5cm x 10/12.5cm
Materials:
Size 3.75mm Needles
16/18 grams DK yarn for 2 squares
Scissors
Tape Measure
Large Eyed Needle (for weaving in yarn ends)
Useful Tip: Knitting into the back of Knit Stitches around the heart helps it’s definition
NB! There are no abbreviations in this pattern

This pattern was created by Pat Farrow. The instructions are written in full with none of the usual abbreviations apart from numbers. A chart is used for the Heart design in the centre of the Square along with written instruction to help complete this project.
The pattern was written at the same time as the squares were knitted, then checked to make sure no edits were needed. The pattern has been used several times since by the creator and by other people therefore tried and tested.
The designer Pat Farrow reserves the legal right to sell or share this pattern. Please do not copy or share it without her consent. It was created for use by anyone knitting for charity therefore you are welcome to donate any Bonding Squares you make to the charity of your choice or any hospital needing these.
