Sizes: XS (S, M, L): 17” (20”, 24”, 27”) / 43cm (52cm, 60cm, 70cm)
diameter.

Choosing your size and fit: The stated measurements are the final garment measurements. Choose a size with 0.5 - 3” / 1.25 - 8 cm negative ease. If you are gift knitting, use XS for children ages 3+, S for teenagers and adult women and S/M for adult men. This is very approximate, so if you can measure please do.

Yarn: Aran/chunky yarn with approx. (90 m / 50 g) sample knits used:

  • Camarose Snefnug (110 m / 50 g)
  • West Yorkshire Spinners Retreat Chunky (140 m / 100g)

Any yarn that meets the gauge can be used.

Yardage: Based on West Yorkshire Spinners Retreat Chunky (140m/100g)

MC: 35 (40, 45, 50) grams / 49 (56, 63, 70) meters

CC1: 10 (10, 10, 10) grams / 14 (14, 14, 14) meters

CC2: 20 (25, 30, 35) grams / 28 (35, 42, 49) meters

These yardages are for the recommended length without a bobble, if you make the hat longer or you make a bobble you will need additional yardage. If you use a yarn with different yardage per 100g make sure to purchase yarn based upon the metres required per strand.

Gauge: 14 stitches & 20 rows per 4” / 10 cm in stockinette after blocking on larger needles.

Needles: 5.5 mm & 6 mm circular needles and/or DPNs. Needle sizes are recommended, choose a size needed to achieve gauge.

Notions: At least 1 stitch marker.

Techniques: Knitting in the round and knitting from charted instructions.

Difficulty: Confident Beginner. This pattern requires only basic knit, purl and simple decrease stitches. The stranded colourwork only uses 2 colours at a time and you do not need to catch floats.
