I would rate this pattern as Intermediate for the Thistle motif, although the body of the scarf is easy enough.

The Yarn used for the thistle top is called Good Old Fashioned Violette, but it may be hard to come by, so you may need to source another yarn with a deep purple colour that will stand out against the background.
