Inspired by the aesthetic beauty of bonsai trees, an art form that creates an emotional and spiritual connection between nature and human creativity. The tree-like lace motif on these socks is meditative and relaxing to knit.

The instructions are for knitting cuff down in the Magic Loop method with a heel flap and gusset, but easily adaptable for DPNS. The lace is an easy-to-knit 6-round repeat that provides a beautiful detail worked down the front of the socks and the back of the leg. There is a chart for the lace motif for quick reference. The heel is my own design, which I call Slip Stitch Ridge Heel. Wedge Toe instructions are given in this pattern, but feel free to use your favorite toe (or heel) constructions. With a combination of simple and step-up stitches, this pattern is ideal for adventurous beginner sock knitters and also enjoyable for experienced knitters wanting to add a touch of lace to their socks. I have knit the model socks in a deliciously soft alpaca-wool blend, but you can use your favorite 4-ply/fingering-weight sock yarn. A solid or tonal/semi-solid color yarn looks very attractive for this design, and is also well-suited to the special, gently speckled yarns. Several sizes to choose from!
