Can you see the joy that a knitted sweater brings a cat? Look at that cat’s face; he’s in heaven! Ok actually he hates it, but cat sweaters are too fun and cute not to knit up! This pattern works up very quickly in Aran weight yarn, with a little cabling to keep things interesting. I would recommend using a machine-washable yarn if you plan on the cat actually wearing the sweater so you can clean it without hassle. I chose a cotton yarn for that reason.

A note on fit: I designed this sweater with no ease. That seems to be the most comfortable fit for a cat. If you would like your sweater to be snug or a bit loose, make sure you bump up or down a size accordingly. This pattern was designed for a cat body, meaning the main body of the sweater has no shaping, to match a cat’s shape. If you would like to make this for a dog, you may need to add decreases after the ribcage to accommodate for their anatomy (unless they’re a chubby cutie!)
