These socks were inspired by my friend’s dog. Islay is a therapy dog and the sweetest girl who, together with her human mom, brings joy to people in hospices and beyond. Every time I see her, I’m reminded of how pure and selfless dogs are, and that all we can do is try to be worthy of them.

Size
1 (2, 3) (The difference is in the width, the length of the foot is customisable.)

Finished Measurements
Length: customisable
Shin circumference: 24–26 cm / 9.4–10.2 in (26,5–28,5 cm, 29–31 cm) / 9.4–10.2 (10.4–11.2, 11.4–12.2) in. Measured right under the end of sock cuff. If you’re on the higher side of the scale, choose bigger size - the colorwork is not very flexible due to the larger one colour sections with floats and if you spread it too much the contrast colour gets visible which doesn’t look good.

Gauge
Colorwork: 33 st & 40 rnds = 10 × 10 cm / 4 x 4 in on 3.00 mm (US 2.5) size needles, washed and blocked
Foot: 34 st & 46 rnds = 10 × 10 cm / 4 x 4 in on 2.25 mm (US 1) size needles, washed and blocked

Needles
2.25 mm (US 1) circular, 25 cm / 10 in cable for the cuff (alternatively, use DPNs or a long circular needle for the magic loop method – these will be necessary for finishing the toe).
3.00 mm (US 2.5) circular, 25 cm / 10 in cable for the colorwork (alternatively, use DPNs or a long circular needle for the magic loop method if you prefer).

Yarn
33 (42, 50) g of fingering weight yarn (ideally containing nylon) in main colour (MC, in this case white)
25 (32, 40) g of fingering weight yarn (ideally containing nylon) in contrast colour (CC, in this case black)

Notions
2 stitch markers
Tapestry needle
Three 40 cm / 16 in long pieces of yarn in two different colours (two pieces in one colour - for example red - for securing the stitches, one piece in another colour - for example yellow - for the afterthought heel).
