Born Again Cardigan offers an innovative technique for upcycling the quintessential denim jacket with hand knit designs. Everyone has one tucked somewhere in their closet; after all, they are indestructible and never go out of fashion. A perfect recipe for upcycling with a bit of hand knitting. My technique produces beautiful, unique results and is surprisingly easy. You only need to know how to knit and sew in straight lines!

Why do you need a Born Again Cardigan:

Save a jacket from the landfill
Upcycling is a good idea; let’s keep a few jackets out of the landfill. Denim jackets are easy to find in thrift stores and they are not expensive to buy second hand.

Bring on that expensive, hand-dyed yarn
What about that beautiful hand-died yarn you love but can seldom afford? You will most likely only need two skeins to upcycle your jacket.

No time to get bored
As you are just replacing a few strategic parts of the jacket, the projects work up surprisingly quickly.

It actually fits!
Because you are using a denim jacket of your choosing, you know your finished product will fit perfectly.

Sublime Jade was created using Madelinetosh Vintage in the colourway Jaded Dreams. Here, this beautiful variegated yarn, knit in a moss stitch, turns out looking like a seam of sublime raw jade.

This project can be made using any size of denim jacket, preferably one that fits you. Complete instructions, including video tutorials, show you how to construct your Born Again Cardigan using the jacket you have on hand. It is a technique and a pattern.

There are just three steps:
One ~ Calculate Gauge, Measure Jacket & Determine the Finished Size of your Knitting
including Armhole Shaping for Front Panels
Two ~ Knit your Pieces
Three ~ Prepare Your Jacket & Attach Your Knitting
